Does PhoneGPT work offline?
Yes. Download and load the models you need first, then chat and use English voice typing without internet. You’ll need a connection for downloads and app updates. No PhoneGPT account is required.
How do I start my first chat?
Get the Android app from the Downloads page. Open Models, choose a small model, download it and tap Load. Then open Chat and ask your first question. Our getting-started guide walks you through it.
Which model should I choose?
Start small. Qwen 3.5 0.8B has a Preferred badge as a suggested first model. You can try others from the library to find what suits you and your phone. Voice typing uses a separate English Whisper model.
Will it work on my phone?
PhoneGPT needs Android 7.0 or later and a compatible 64-bit phone. You also need enough free storage for your models and enough phone memory to run them. Bigger models need more resources, so start with a compact option. Speed and compatibility vary by device.
Does it remember my conversation?
Follow-up questions use the current conversation, within your chosen model’s limits. Saving a chat does not give the model unlimited memory. Separate chats do not share their history. You can adjust how much conversation a model uses in Settings; larger settings need more phone memory.
Can I speak instead of typing?
Yes. Download an English voice model, then tap the microphone and speak. Your words appear in the message box, ready to review and edit. Stop finishes the recording; Cancel discards text still being processed. Voice typing doesn’t send your message automatically, and replies are currently text only.
Can I ask questions about a file?
You can attach a plain-text (.txt) file up to 32 KB, as long as its text fits within the model’s conversation limit. Some text formats may not be readable. The app saves a copy with your chat; deleting the chat removes that copy, not your original file. Images, PDFs and Word documents aren’t supported yet.
Can I install PhoneGPT on an iPhone?
Not yet. PhoneGPT is currently available for Android. iPhone support is planned, but there is no iPhone download yet.
How do I update the app?
Check the Downloads page for the latest version and install it over your existing app. Updates aren’t automatic. Avoid uninstalling first: uninstalling or clearing app data removes local chats and downloaded models. Keeping data through every update cannot be guaranteed; PhoneGPT’s own backup feature isn’t available yet.
How do I share feedback or request a model?
Use the Say hello form for feedback, ideas, model requests or anything you’d like to say. For a model request, include its name or link. If something went wrong, tell us what happened and which phone you use. Share only what you’re comfortable sending.
