YOUR FIRST CONVERSATION

A few steps. Then, ask away.

Bring your Android phone, a little free space and something you’re curious about. You’ll need internet for setup and model downloads.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Make a little room.

PhoneGPT needs Android 7.0 or later and a compatible 64-bit phone. Model downloads take up storage, and running them needs additional phone memory. Larger models aren’t a guaranteed fit for every device.

No PhoneGPT account is needed. Start with a compact model and the default settings, then explore what works for your phone.

THE SETUP

From download to your first reply.

  1. Install PhoneGPT for Android.

Get the installation file from the Downloads page. Android may ask you to allow installation from your browser or file manager. Only continue if you trust the download.

    Get the Android app

Already using PhoneGPT? Install the update over your existing app. Avoid uninstalling first, because that removes local chats and models.

  2. Choose a model.

Open Models, expand a family and choose a compact chat model. Qwen 3.5 0.8B has the Preferred badge as a suggested place to start. Check its download size before continuing.

Tap Download and wait for it to finish. You can pause, resume or cancel a download.

  3. Load it and start chatting.

Once the download finishes, tap Load to get the model ready. Then open Chat and ask something like: “Help me turn these three ideas into a short plan.”

Ask a follow-up to keep the conversation going. When you reopen the app, you may need to load your model again; it remains downloaded.

  4. Try it offline.

With your model downloaded and loaded, turn off your connection and try a short conversation. Your phone generates the reply.

TRY VOICE TYPING

Say the rough version.

In Models → Voice, download and choose an English voice model. Tap the microphone in Chat, speak, then tap Stop. Review or edit your words before sending.

Start with Tiny or Base. Larger voice models need more phone memory.

BRING YOUR NOTES

Ask about a text file.

Use the paperclip to attach a .txt file up to 32 KB, then add your question. Its text also needs to fit within your model’s conversation limit.

Images, PDFs and Word documents aren’t supported yet.

Need a little help?

If a model won’t load, try a smaller one, close other apps or reduce how much conversation the model uses. Free storage and available phone memory both matter.
